Why Local Businesses Matter
Grab a cup of coffee and settle in, because it’s about to get real, here.
Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, and as a small business owner, I ✨love✨ that there’s attention on small independently run businesses this time of year.
But supporting small business shouldn’t just happen on Saturday.
Or only this time of year.
Or just once in awhile.
Supporting small businesses (especially LOCALLY) should happen everyday. Before you Amazon Prime something to your front door, consider supporting the small business in your town.
Because those small local business owners do big things.
They support your kids fundraisers.
They volunteer at your local schools.
They donate to local food drives.
They spend time putting together community events.
They spend countless dollars and hours investing in local activities, organizations and clubs.
They ask how your parents are doing. Or your children. And they genuinely care.
They pull together when your neighbor down the street loses everything in a house fire.
They organize a benefit when a child in town battles cancer.
They work super freaking hard to not only bring their amazing talents to life through their businesses, but they work super freaking hard to make the towns you live in a place you WANT to live in.
Small Business support shouldn’t just be limited to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’s up to each of us to be the cheerleaders for ALL small businesses because if not us...then who? For real. Who?
That’s what I thought. It’s up to us.
Can I get an Amen!? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Here in SW MN and NW IA we are incredibly blessed, and I mean that, to have an insane number of amazing small businesses. I am so glad that Lakefield, MN where I operate my business is hands down one of the most supportive towns that I think I’ve ever seen.
This is Main Street in Lakefield. On a random Thursday. At 9 am. And there’s not a parking spot to be found. I’ve had multiple times where I’ve had to circle the block 4 or 5 times to find a parking spot, and sometimes I have to abandon ship and try again later 🤣 This is what supporting small looks like. We all do better when we all do better (quote credit to the late Senator Wellstone 🙌🏻). And when we all do better...
Well... does it get any better than that?
Support local. Shop small. Watch big things happen.
